Support the Retreats
Your compassion creates a sanctuary for healing. By supporting or volunteering with Held Retreats, you help trauma survivors stitch together a new story of hope and spiritual connection.
Volunteers are welcome to offer to serve in more than one role if they feel called.
Retreat volunteer hours are planned to be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to noon, while gardening volunteer times are more flexible. Volunteers may serve up to 5 days a week, weekly, monthly, or as otherwise approved by Patchwork staff.

Peer Support Specialist – Offer gentle, peer-based support for GriefShare® groups or other peer-led gatherings, helping others feel seen, heard, and less alone. This role will typically serve up to 4 hours per day, Monday through Friday, during retreat weeks.
Community Garden Volunteer – Help tend The Garden Patch, nurturing spaces where survivors and supporters can breathe, reflect, and grow together. Gardening volunteer hours will be flexible and can be scheduled as needed with staff.
Giving Seeds Project Leader – Help plan and lead small pay-it-forward “Giving Seeds” projects that extend care for future retreats and into local communities. This role will typically require up to 5–8 hours per month for planning and activity times.
Chapel & Worship Facilitators – Help guide optional chapel times or small-group worship, creating a gentle, Christ-centered space for prayer, reflection, and shared praise. This role will typically require up to 5–8 hours per month for planning and chapel times.
Nature Walks Facilitator – Lead gentle 30-minute walks with simple devotionals, nature sketching, and journaling prompts that help participants notice God’s presence in creation. This role will typically serve 1 hour a day on Mondays and Wednesdays during retreats.
Creative Expressions Leader – Guide expressive art and reflective journaling times that give survivors safe, creative ways to process their stories and connect with hope. This role will typically require up to 5–8 hours per month for planning and activity times.
Get Involved
To ensure the safety of our community, background checks are standard for all volunteer roles. Please know that a prior finding will not automatically disqualify you from serving; we will review each situation individually, considering the nature of the volunteer work and the finding, as we walk together in grace.
All volunteers will be properly trained prior to beginning a new role.
